Tackling Smoking in Glasgow – Final Report

Jan 2006

This study, funded in partnership by the Glasgow Centre for Population Health, NHS Health Scotland and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde was developed to add to the evidence base of best practice for services and programmes to tackle smoking.

It involved three main components:

  • a scoping study of the Glasgow tobacco strategy
  • an evaluation of intensive group-based smoking cessation services
  • an exploratory study of pharmacy-based treatment for smokers

The findings suggested that Glasgow's services are delivering effective help for smokers trying to quit but highlighted different levels of effectiveness with different sub-groups.
