Prof Carol Tannahill awarded Fellowship of the Royal Society of Edinburgh
As one of 56 distinguished individuals announced as new Fellows, Carol adds her expertise to the current Fellowship representing science and technology, academia, the arts and business, and who support the advancement of learning and useful knowledge in Scottish public life.
New Fellows are elected to the RSE each year through a rigorous five-stage nomination process. The scope of the Fellowship, numbering over 1,600 individuals from Scotland, the UK and abroad, enables the RSE to provide a wide range of leadership and expertise.
President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Professor Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell, commented:
It is fantastic to welcome such a range of outstanding individuals to the Fellowship. Each newly elected Fellow has been nominated on their notable and extensive achievements. In joining the Fellowship, they will strengthen the RSE’s capacity to advance excellence across all areas of public life; both in Scotland and further afield.
Commenting on her election, Carol said:
It’s a great privilege to have been elected as a Fellow of the RSE and I’m delighted at this recognition for the work of the GCPH and our ongoing commitment to improving health and tackling inequality. I look forward to becoming involved in the Society’s activities and to bringing our GCPH insights and evidence into those forums.
The Royal Society of Edinburgh is a leading educational charity which operates on an independent and non-party-political basis to provide public benefit throughout Scotland. This range of expertise enables the RSE to take part in a host of activities such as providing independent and expert advice to Government and Parliament, supporting aspiring entrepreneurs through mentorship, facilitating education programmes for young people and engaging the general public through educational events.
