Staff update: Director

Carol Tanahill has held her Director post since the Centre’s inception in 2004, and for the past six years held the role jointly alongside acting as Chief Social Policy Adviser in Scottish Government.

Carol will be greatly missed but we wish her well and every success in her new role, in which she will focus in the immediate term on the COVID-19 response. We  would like to thank Carol for her vision, leadership and commitment to the Centre over the years which has seen the GCPH establish itself as a key and influential organisation within the public health landscape. 

Dr Pete Seaman, who has held an Associate Director role since July 2016 will fill directorial duties until such a time the current COVID-19 crisis allows the recruitment of a new director.

Professor John Brown CBE, Chairman, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and Chair of the GCPH Management Board, said:

“On behalf of the GCPH Management Board I want to thank Professor Tannahill for the contribution she has made to improving public health in general, and the work of the Glasgow Centre for Population Health in particular. Her contribution has made the Centre a highly and widely respected research organisation and an influential body in the field of population health.

On a personal level, I want to put on record my thanks to Carol for the support and advice she has given me as Chair of GCPH and as Chair of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Her contribution to encouraging the Health Board through her participation in the Health Board’s Public Health Committee should not be underestimated and is very much valued by the NHS.

I want to wish Carol well in her new role and I am grateful to Dr Pete Seaman who has agreed to fill directorial duties in the interim.“
