International Co-operation: Sweden's Study Visit to Glasgow on Sustainable School Food

May 2014

In December 2013 a visiting delegation from Gothenburg, Sweden returned to Glasgow to find out more about sustainable school food policies and initiatives and other sustainable food developments in the city.

The visit was part of an ongoing collaboration between public health, catering and education professionals in Glasgow and Gothenburg to build knowledge and momentum regarding the potential for further integration and cooperation between teaching and catering staff in schools and the extension of healthy eating beyond the school curriculum.

This report describes the Swedish delegation’s experiences and reflections. The delegation was very impressed with the positive developments they witnessed in Glasgow, not only in relation to healthy, sustainable food policies and programmes, but also with regard to outdoor learning.

We hope that we can continue to communicate and co-operate with our Gothenburg colleagues to build further joint learning in this arena.
